CADWELD
ERICO have appointed ETS Cable Components as the authorised UK-reseller and stockist for CADWELD exothermic welding products. The CADWELD system provides a means to exothermically weld different metals together in a molecularly-bonded connection which is electrically sound, immune to thermal conditions and not subject to the corrosion issues associated with mechanical or compression materials. The CADWELD process fuses metals with a current-carrying capacity equal to the grounding conductor, enabling lower resistivity and, therefore, a better earth-path for potential short-circuit strikes.
Virtually any metal-metal exothermic bond is possible using an exhaustive array of mold-bodies, weld metals and weld-process starting equipment.
Erico CADWELD can be used for:
· Cable to cable connection, including parallel joints, tees, crossovers, multiple connections and tap-offs.
· Cable to grounding rod connection, including termination and tee connection of through conductors.
· Cable to metallic surfaces, e.g. for grounding steel structures and fabrications.
· Cable to busbar connections or joining to flat-tape earthing systems, cable termination lugging.
· Cable to concrete reinforcing bar or metal pipe-work.
· Flat busbar/tape connection, including parallel joints, tees, crossovers and tap-offs or creating earthing grid networks.
· Flat busbar/tape to metallic surfaces, e.g. for grounding steel structures and fabrications.
· Flat busbar/tape to grounding rod connection, including termination and tee connection of through conductors.
· Welded High-Voltage power cable connections, e.g. exothermically welding dissimilar conductors within transmission straight joints.
Featured ranges:
The traditional CADWELD system utilises powder weld-metals which are poured into the crucible of each mold-body and ignited with a flint-gun device. The carbon-graphite mold-bodies are unique to each connection being performed and have a service life of up to fifty individual connections. A full range of accessories is available including handle clamps for securing the molds to the material, cleaning materials and preparation tools.

Utilising the same mold-bodies as the “Traditional” range, CADWELD PLUS provides the weld-metals in an enclosed metallic cup which includes the starting powder. Easier and quicker to use than the “Traditional” product, CADWELD PLUS weld-metals are ignited with a remote-control unit, enabling the operator to be further away from the ignition process, an important safety feature.
There are host of other CADWELD-related products which may be of interest. Please click on the links below for further information.

CADWELD MULTI, a multi-purpose system suitable for 30 different exothermic welding connections within the same mould-body. Ideal for small projects, where the purchase of individual mold-bodies would not be economically feasible.

CADWELD ONE-SHOT. As the name suggests, a single-use system for connecting all types earth rods to copper solid-circular or stranded earthing conductors. Suitable for copper-bonded (threaded and plain), galvanised or stainless steel earth rods, the system comprises of a ceramic mold-body and powder weld-metal which is ignited with the traditional flint-gun. Once the exothermic process is complete and cooled, the ceramic mold is simply hammered off, leaving a permanent electrical connection which will not loosen or corrode.

CADWELD PLUS ONE-SHOT. Featuring a similar ceramic body to the “Traditional” system, the PLUS ONE-SHOT mold includes the weld-metal in an enclosed metallic cup and ignited by the same electronic remote-control device as the CADWELD PLUS system. Suitable for connecting copper solid-circular or stranded earthing conductors to copper-bonded (threaded and plain), galvanised or stainless steel earth rods.
